The leak was first reported as a "fire incident" by Columbia Borough police around 1:30 p.m. on Sept. 7.

The public was urged to avoid S 2nd and Union streets in the borough, but additional information was not immediately shared.

Daily Voice reached out to authorities and confirmed the incident is actually a gas leak, not a fire.

All the homes and a church in the area have been evacuated as police and fire crews wait for UGI to arrive, dispatchers told us around 2:30 p.m.

No one has been injured or hospitalized due to the leak.
